Control algorithms are usually designed in a continuous time representation. However, in practice, they are in most instances implemented on a digital computer that can only operate at discrete time instants. Hence, it either has to be ensured that the continuous time design is also appropriate for the discrete time realization or design methods that are suitable for a discrete time controller operation have to be used.

The aim of this course is to provide analysis and design methods that allow the realization of control algorithms on digital computers with a discrete time operation. To this end, the course first considers quasi-continuous control and then develops analysis and design methods that can be applied to discrete time systems.
